The Baltimore Ravens have pulled off a trade, sending defensive tackle C.J. Okoye to the New York Giants.
Ahead of the roster cutdown day for the Baltimore Ravens, the team has chosen to trim its roster by acquiring some draft capital in exchange for defensive tackle C.J. Okoye.
Per multiple reports, the Ravens have sent Okoye to the New York Giants in exchange for a 2028 seventh-round pick.
Okoye was likely a player who would have had trouble making the 53-man roster, as the defensive line is already stacked with players who have performed well. The only one who has not been seen in preseason action is Nnamdi Madubuike, but the Ravens may not have planned to place him on IR to start the season.
Madubuike, Calais Campbell, Travis Jones, John Jenkins, Broderick Washington, and Aaneas Peebles were the likely defensive tackles to make it onto the 53-man roster, and Okoye was one of those who may not have made it.
Instead of cutting Okoye, which would have led to him likely signing with a new team, the Ravens were able to pick up some draft capital.
Now, Okoye will play for John Harbaugh and the Giants.
Okoye did not have much of an impact during preseason, as he picked up four total tackles. He also stayed within the 60s of overall grades, per Pro Football Focus.
Okoye's highest grade was during the Ravens' second preseason game, where he secured a 67.6 overall grade against the Minnesota Vikings.
The good news is that the entirety of the Baltimore defense played well through three games, and that was without most of the starters being seen at all. Okoye was part of that roster, and likely played himself into a potentiall better opportunity elsewhere instead of being cut and needing to wait it out on joining a new a team.
This may not be the last deal that the Ravens make, considering cutdown day is just a day away.
Baltimore, like the rest of the 31 teams in the NFL, will have to cut down its roster on Aug. 30. That means there could be more deals and trades happening in the coming days.
Head coach Jesse Minter and general manager Eric DeCosta may have some tough decisions to make regarding who will be cut or potentially traded, but the first move has been made, sending Okoye to the Giants.
Okoye joined the Ravens in 2025, and was activated to the roster in October after remaining on the practice squad. Now, he reunites with Harbaugh in New York.
