New Baltimore Ravens edge rusher Trey Hendrickson discussed his chance to be a leader and named Mike Green as the young player he cannot wait to mold.
The Baltimore Ravens got a huge player in Trey Hendrickson, who has been one of the best pass rushers in the NFL for multiple years. On top of coming from the divisional rival Cincinnati Bengals, which comes with its own knowledge, Hendrickson has been in the league for a long time.
Heading into his 10th season and first with the Ravens, Hendrickson revealed he cannot wait to take on a leadership role and named linebacker Mike Green as a player he is excited to mold.
Baltimore has needed some strong pass rushers, especially after the loss of defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike. Though there is optimism he can return, his injury and missed season led to a significant drop in sacks and quarterback hits for the team.
The good news is the Ravens have some young talent that can be brought along and shown the finer details of being strong pass rushers. Green, fellow linebacker Tavius Robinson, and Aeneas Peebles are among those players.
All three have been working together this offseason, fine-tuning their pass rush with renowned coach Chris Peace. They all have plenty to offer, and Hendrickson named Green as a player he cannot wait to work with.
Hendrickson joined "The Set With Terron Armstead," where he spoke candidly about this next phase of his football career. That includes taking on a leadership role for the Ravens' defense and helping to mold the young players there.
"I'm still believing in myself and going into my 30s, that I can do this and I will do it. And it's just a fun time to give this knowledge that I've been given through so many great players to help mold guys like, you know, Mike Green into the be into the best uh version of himself, you know, and that that's what excites me about being a veteran in this league," Hendrickson said.
Green appeared in all 17 games and started two. During that time, he secured 3.5 sacks, which is solid for a rookie pass rusher. Now, he will have the benefit to learn from Hendrickson, who has secured 61 sacks in the last five seasons.
There is no guarantee that Madubuike will return in 2026, despite the optimism that it can happen. With that factor of the defense still an unknown, the Ravens must get the best out of their young talent.
Green showed flashes of brilliance, as did Robinson. They will both get the benefit of having a defensive-minded coach in Jesse Minter leading the way, and the return of Anthony Weaver, who is now the defensive coordinator.
Pairing all of that with the level that Hendrickson brings to the table, this Ravens defense could rebound in a big way.
