The Baltimore Ravens may not be in the market for a high-profile receiver.
There has been plenty said about the Baltimore Ravens' inability to put a quality receiver next to Zay Flowers. Despite having solid veterans like DeAndre Hopkins, the team has just not found a true playmaker.
General manager Eric DeCosta got to work to remedy this by targeting two young upstarts in Elijah Sarratt and Ja'Kobi Lane. With both rookies potentially being the ones to step up, the Ravens also signed former Baltimore fourth-round draft pick Chris Moore, which proves they were not in the market for a high-profile receiver.
The Ravens have a lot of new moving parts, including a new coaching staff that includes offensive coordinator Declan Doyle. The former Chicago Bears coach has impressed thus far with Flowers calling him a "genius" and Lamar Jackson saying the offense is "mind-blowing."
Doyle is expected to take the offense in a new exciting way, and there is a belief that he may be able to also unlock some hidden potential for Rashod Bateman.
Bateman has muddled the lines of being a breakout player, with his most successful season coming in 2024. He secured 756 yards and nine touchdowns, but that performance appears to be an outlier in the grand scheme of his career.
DeCosta has been a staunch supporter of Bateman, and Doyle might just be the mind that can finally put him in the best position to succeed.
The Moore signing may not be the flashiest, but it also provides the Ravens a chance at having a depth player who can play on special teams and potentially in the return game. This would also allow Saratt and Lane to be utilized more in the passing game.
During minicamp, Baltimore head coach Jesse Minter indicated that one of the rookies would get a "major opportunity," and both will battle it out in camp to determine who that might be. It could very well be both, as the rookies have been lined up in unique ways already.
Sarratt was known for his contested catch prowess, and he pulled off one of the more impressive catches from Jackson. Lane is a taller receiver who can also make plays on the ball, but he was being lined up as a more slot option to damage defenses with over-the-middle catches.
Doyle clearly has some plans in place for the pair, and there could be a chance that both come in as rotational receivers. If either or both impress, then the Ravens will have young players who can step up and impact the offense in the same manner Flowers has.
If there is an off-chance that the receivers in the building do not impress, then it would make sense for Baltimore to seek one out, such as Stefon Diggs. However, that is not something that is expected with the potential talent currently in the building.
Nothing is ever truly set in the NFL, but it would not be shocking to see the Ravens' offense flourish without a flashy name being signed.
