The Baltimore Ravens may be forced into a situation of trading up now that the New York Giants traded Dexter Lawrence for the No. 10 overall pick.
Blockbuster trades and movement in the first round of the draft are typical occurrences, but the New York Giants sending Dexter Lawrence II to the Cincinnati Bengals for the No. 10 overall pick will have a heavy impact on many teams, including the Baltimore Ravens.
The Ravens are picking at No. 14 overall, but the Giants' now selecting twice in the top could have some heavy implications on the draft board. Multiple teams may now be angling to move up, including Baltimore, and they may now be forced to make a move to select their top pick.
Granted, no one knows which player is viewed as the top candidate for any team, and mock drafts are merely projections of position need and best player available instances that never work out exactly as pundits and analysts deem them.
That said, the Ravens have a glaring need: offensive line. The team has been mocked to Miami tackle Francis Mauigoa, Utah's Spencer Fano, and Penn State's Vega Ioane.
With the Giants now picking twice in the top 10, those three linemen could very well be off the board once the Ravens pick at No. 14 overall.
Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta even openly admitted that the drop-off in talent in the first round occurs in the middle of the round. This is seemingly how many executives feel about the draft as well.
This makes moving up even more paramount for Baltimore, including other teams. The Giants have now thrown a wrench in the plans that every team had, especially those that were attempting to make a move into the top 15 or top 10.
DeCosta stated that the team could end up with "six picks or 11 picks," obviously throwing a bit of a smoke screen to other general managers trying to get a sense of what the Ravens front office is planning to do. He also may have inadvertently revealed that the favorite player for the team to take is Fano.
"I think Fano can play wherever you want him to play," DeCosta said. "He can play tackle, he can play guard. He's a good athlete, tough. He's a good player.
DeCosta also heaped praise on Ioane, but also indicated he is a prototypical guard. The Ravens need some big improvements to the offensive line, and Fano could be the right player.
Fano has played tackle primarily, but also has some guard experience, and he took snaps at center during the NFL Combine just to further prove his versatility. He is the right kind of lineman that Baltimore needs currently.
This leads to moving up even more of a point for the Ravens. There could be a situation where Mauigoa is gone in the top 10, which would put even more pressure on teams to take Fano.
Considering the Miami Dolphins' pick at No. 11 overall, and having a need on the line, the Ravens may have no choice but to try and move up into the top 10 to land a player like Fano. This is assuming that the Utah prospect is the guy, but DeCosta's comments seem to indicate that.
The 2026 season is also an important one for DeCosta. After the organization fired John Harbaugh, owner Steve Bisciotti sent a message that legacy does not matter if it doesn't translate to playoff wins and a Super Bowl appearance, at the bare minimum.
DeCosta may need to swing big, especially after the dramatic end to the Maxx Crosby trade saga. If the Ravens move up or down, it could save DeCosta's job.
