According to Pro Football Talk, the New Orleans Saints had planned to release veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks, but not before adding a “poison pill” to the contract in order to help him clear waivers. By clearing waivers, Cooks would become a free agent and would be free to sign with any team he wished.

However, it appears that the league caught on to what the Saints were doing. Thanks to a number of league rules, the attempt to help Cooks may ban the Saints from releasing Brandin Cooks all together.

In a season that Saints’ fans just want to move on from, the Saints have found a way to make it even more weird.
