It's never too early for a mock draft.

Training camp for the New Orleans Saints is right around the corner, beginning on July 29, which makes it the perfect time for a three-round 2027 NFL Mock Draft.

First off, it’s important to understand the goal of this exercise. It isn’t predicting what the Saints will do in April; it’s far too soon, as countless things will change. However, it’s a valuable resource for fans to identify some potential prospects and positions to watch next season.

Having said that, it’s time to get into a Saints three-round, pre-training-camp mock draft.

Round One: Colin Simmons- EDGE, Texas

Colin Simmons’ absurd first step, staggering power, and technical refinement make him a game-wrecking three-down presence who will dominate SEC competition in 2026. The six-foot-three, 245-pound junior is undeniably one of the top defenders in the nation and has wreaked havoc in his career, totaling 21 sacks, 29.5 tackles for loss, and 105 pressures.

Simmons would provide much-needed reinforcements to the Saints’ defensive line and could be the successor to Cameron Jordan. He and Chase Young would be a dangerous tandem for opposing offenses and would be the foundation of Brandon Staley’s defense for the foreseeable future. If available, the Saints should grab Simmons in the first round.

Round Two: OJ Frederique Jr.- CB, Miami

OJ Frederique is arguably the best man coverage cornerback in the nation and consistently eliminates his matchup from the field. He pairs a great frame, at six-foot, 185 pounds, with impeccable footwork and athleticism that lets him seamlessly mirror and compete with receivers. Additionally, his physicality allows him to shut down contested catches. He’s still developing in zone coverage, but he has the potential to become a lockdown cornerback in the NFL.

The Saints' cornerback room is filled with questions heading into 2026. Kool-Aid McKinstry is the primary player and has flashed elite talent, but has been defined by inconsistencies. Beyond this, it’s all unproven players. As a result, it would be wise to address the unit early next April.

Round Three: AJ Holmes- DT, Texas Tech

AJ Holmes quietly had a productive season in 2026 as the complement to David Bailey, Lee Hunter, and Romello Height. Now, he seeks to step onto the national radar and prove he’s a game-changing talent on the interior. The six-foot-three, 300-pound redshirt senior is outstanding against the run, with an amazing anchor that makes him immovable. Also, he has three-down potential with the tools to become a productive pass rusher.

Bryan Bresee has been great for the Saints since being drafted in 2023, but he lacks an explosive counterpart. Because of this, finding him a partner should be at the top of their priorities this offseason.
