The New Orleans Saints had a slow start to their Week 13 matchup against the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium, falling into a 16-0 hole by halftime. Miami struck early when De’Von Achane broke loose for a 29-yard touchdown run to make it 7-0. After that score, the Saints’ defense actually settled in and made a few timely stops. But in the second quarter the Dolphins added three field goals — including one right before halftime — to stretch the lead to 16-0 heading into the break.
In the third quarter the Saints finally fought back. Tyler Shough connected for a touchdown and then ran in the two-point conversion to trim the deficit to 16-8 and make it a one-score game. Miami answered with a 33-yard field goal to push the lead to 19-8, but the Saints kept hope alive with a 56-yard field goal of their own, cutting it to 19-11.
Then came the drama. With 1:17 remaining, Shough found Devaughn Vele for a touchdown to make it 19-17, setting up a chance to tie the game on a two-point conversion. But Dolphins safety Minkah Fitzpatrick jumped the throw, intercepted it, and returned it all the way for a defensive two-point conversion — flipping the moment and extending Miami’s lead to 21-17.
Even then the Saints weren’t done. They executed a perfect onside kick and recovered it, giving themselves a chance to drive for a game-winning touchdown. But they couldn’t finish the comeback, ultimately falling 21-17.
New Orleans now turns the page to a Week 14 matchup against the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay.
