Despite a crushing fourth-quarter collapse against Las Vegas, New Orleans coaches find hope in Tyler Shough’s four-touchdown performance as they navigate a volatile start to the season.

The New Orleans Saints lost to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, 35-27. It wasn't for lack of offense.

Saints quarterback Tyler Shough completed 29 of 42 passes for 255 yards and four touchdowns with one interception. Unfortunately, the offense stopped in the third quarter.

The Saints carried a 27-22 lead into the fourth quarter. Las Vegas won the fourth quarter 13-0.

Despite the loss, the Saints are looking for positives. They found a few as they exit the Week 3 loss.

New Orleans head coach Kellen Moore was optimistic about the result despite the loss. Moore shared the positives heading out of the game.

"I think the big thing for us is, take the emotion out of it and just keep going. We all have to step away from that and from time to time, we all have to do a better job of that. We had our opportunities in this game, I think that's the big thing. We had opportunities within even that fourth quarter to get this thing done.

You've got to recognize the good and the bad in every game. It's the NFL, every game is going to be tight. We're 1-2, that's just where we're at right now. There are opportunities ahead of ourselves, we've got a lot of big-time moments moving forward. The biggest challenge, I think, in the NFL is just the riding of the roller coaster, so to speak, and the emotions of every game. Everyone puts so much into this game and sometimes you come up short, unfortunately. And you've got to be able to respond and just keep building and keep climbing and getting ready for the next one."

Saints running back Travis Etienne did not have a bad game, but he was not much of a difference maker. Etienne added 57 rushing yards on 13 carries for the day.

Raiders tight end Brock Bowers more than doubled Etienne's rushing total with 116 receiving yards and a touchdown catch on 10 receptions. Veteran Raiders quarterback Kirk Cousins overwhelmed the Saints defense with 66.7% completions and three touchdowns to get Las Vegas the win.

The season is not over. The Saints came storming back last season after a slow start, but not before starting 2-11.

Nobody expects the Saints to be that bad this season, but they will need to kick it into gear if they want to compete for the postseason in 2026. We'll keep an eye on how they respond over the next week.
