Could Alvin Kamara reunite with Sean Payton? Explore a controversial trade sending the Saints star to Denver for draft picks.

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara is a popular trade name this offseason. For good reason, Saints fans are not loving the potential move.

Kamara has been a key member of the Saints organization for several years and delivered plenty of good moments for the team. Even so, as his career progresses it seems evident that he may not be elite for much longer.

Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox proposed a trade that would send Saints legendary running back Alvin Kamara to the Denver Broncos for a 2026 7th-round pick and conditional 2027 6th-round pick. Knox described why the trade could make sense for the Broncos and Saints.

"New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara might not seem like an impactful trade candidate in 2026. The five-time Pro Bowler will turn 31 in July, is coming off a career-worst year, and is recovering from a sprained MCL.

Kamara also hinted last season that he'd consider retirement if he were to be traded.

Yet, a trade involving Kamara, should he choose to accept it, could have a substantial impact on free agency and the draft. That would be particularly true if he were to land with a Super Bowl contender like the Denver Broncos.

Denver, which happens to employ Kamara's former head coach, Sean Payton, should be looking to upgrade its supporting cast this offseason. Kamara is a talented runner and receiver who would complement second-year back RJ Harvey and help replace impending free agent J.K. Dobbins."

The trade has multiple layers. The first is that the move would send Kamara to the Broncos to play for former Saints head coach Sean Payton. Presumably, this is a trade that Payton would certainly want to make due to familiarity, respect for the player and belief in what Kamara brings to the table.

Payton would not make the move to simply relive the New Orleans glory days. The move surpasses nostalgia. Kamara would likely make the Broncos a better opportunity and give both Denver and the star running back a chance at a Super Bowl. Saints' fans would probably like to see the versatile ball carrier win it all before he retires even if not with New Orleans.

Then there's what the Saints would get back in the trade. The real victory the trade would yield is a modest increase in salary cap space.

We'll monitor what New Orleans decides to do this offseason.
