The goal of every team heading into the NFL draft is to simply make the team better than it was prior to the set of selections. For the Saints, improving the team could be narrowed to improving the offense. In particular, the Saints need to improve at playmaking positions.
The debate for some is whether or not adding a wide receiver or a running back makes the offense better, either in the short term or long term. While running back is not always viewed as a transcendent position, one ball carrier is being labeled as a difference maker. That player has become a familiar one for Saints fans over the draft process in Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love.
Jaron Spor of Athlon Sports explained why Love to the Saints seems like such a no brainer to some projecting the NFL draft. He shared the following reasoning on the potential addition.
In his final two seasons at South Bend, Love had an outstanding performance, rushing for a total of 2,497 yards and scoring 35 touchdowns. He also recorded 517 receiving yards and five touchdowns during that time. In 2025, he was unanimously selected as a first-team All-American and won the Doak Walker Award, given to the nation’s top running back. Additionally, he finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting.
Drafting Love would give Moore a dynamic weapon to pair with quarterback Tyler Shough as the Saints attempt to climb back into NFC South contention. While some may view the selection as a luxury given other roster needs, an explosive back with Love’s résumé could help New Orleans accelerate its offensive rebuild and create long-term flexibility should Kamara’s tenure in the Crescent City come to an end.

For a while, Kamara has been a mainstay at the position. Nevertheless, the aging veteran may not have much longer to play in the league at an elite level. Thus, the Saints may feel they need to add a long-term replacement at the position.
Running backs typically don't add a ton to an offense, but Love, the explosive Notre Dame prospect, projects to bring that after several runs of 40 or more yards in South Bend.
The Saints will weigh whether or not Love is the most impactful pick at No. 8 over the coming weeks.
