Terron Armstead’s glowing endorsement reveals why New Orleans finally found its franchise anchor, even sparking rumors of a stunning comeback to protect the prolific signal-caller.

Good quarterback play is a rarity in the National Football League. Truly consistent quarterbacking has become scarce in the modern NFL. That isn't the case in New Orleans.

The New Orleans Saints have found a good signal caller in Tyler Shough. That news has traveled to those who used to star in the league.

One such player is former pro bowler and Saints offensive lineman Terron Armstead. The former New Orleans star shared effusive praise toward the current Saints quarterback. Here's some of what he had to say about Shough's game and its implied impact on the players around him.

“They have found their guy and will be for the foreseeable future. I’m such a Tyler Shough fan. I’m such a Tyler Shough guy. He is everything you want from a franchise guy. He is the leader that you want. His accountability is through the roof. His willingness to compete, his desire to win, his desire to not lose … I’m telling you, there’s no bigger fan in sports than me with Tyler Shough.

I had never thought about coming out of retirement before this moment. Sitting with Tyler Shough, I’m telling you. Every negative that happened to the New Orleans Saints last year, he took ownership. It had nothing to do with him. It was before he even played.

Tyler Shough made me think about going to get an injection on this knee first, and then coming back and play ball to protect this man.”

To be frank, the above sentiment is probably shared by Shough's teammates. We have heard nothing negative about Shough from those who suit up alongside him every week. Judging by how his teammates interact with him during games and how those outside the franchise speak of him, it's not hard to see how he is viewed widely.

The real reason Shough is likable is he has little to no negative traits. It shows up in his preparation and performance.

Shough does not put a target on his back. He simply goes to work, supports his teammates, does his job and puts up crazy numbers. Above all, he wins. Sometimes it's really that simple. Albeit it's Shough's default.

The Saints' franchise player is someone his teammates and former players have no problem going to war with each Sunday. Now he's looking to continue his productive play and lead the Saints to the postseason.

New Orleans will look to keep their prolific offensive play alive as they move toward a more manageable part of their schedule.
