The rising coach and former NFL quarterback played seven seasons, appearing in 10 games with four starts—six games and two starts with McCarthy and the Packers and four games with two starts with the Indianapolis Colts. He also spent time with the San Diego Chargers and San Francisco 49ers without seeing game action. Tolzien completed 88 of 146 pass attempts (60.3%) for 1,065 yards, two touchdowns and nine interceptions.
While serving as an assistant and later the quarterbacks coach in Dallas from 2020 to 2024, Tolzien helped produce some of Dak Prescott’s best seasons and played a major role in his development, similar to the one he held with Saints second-round rookie QB Tyler Shough this past season during his first year in New Orleans. Tolzien remaining in the Big Easy is significant for the continued development of the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year finalist.
Kirby Lee - Imagn ImagesHaslett—the son of former Saints head coach Jim Haslett, who led the team from 2000–2005 with a 45–51 record—interviewed for the Steelers’ passing game coordinator and tight ends coach position but ultimately decided to remain in New Orleans after helping TE Juwan Johnson post a career year during his first season with the team.
Just 33 years old, Haslett already has a decorated coaching résumé and is quickly rising in the coaching ranks. He spent four years at the collegiate level before joining the Cowboys’ staff from 2020 to 2024 as an offensive quality control coach, assistant tight ends coach and pass game specialist, then followed Tolzien to New Orleans to reunite with Kellen Moore, Dallas’ offensive coordinator from 2019 to 2022.
Tolzien and Haslett clearly see that Moore is building a culture. Their decision to remain with the team is significant, as New Orleans already lost assistant offensive line coach Jahri Evans to Mike McCarthy’s staff in Pittsburgh for the same role. Evans, a future Pro Football Hall of Famer and Saints legend, had been with the coaching staff since 2022.
