Spencer Rattler Labeled a Potential 'Best QB Option' for One Team cover image

The Browns eye Spencer Rattler as a potential bargain QB. Could the Saints quarterback revitalize Cleveland's struggling offense after a coaching upheaval?

New Orleans Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler could be in demand this offseason. He joins what some say is soon-to-be-unretired quarterback Derek Carr as potential trade options for the Saints at signal caller.

You might be wondering, any team that views Rattler as a difference maker has to have a rough quarterback situation. You would probably be right. The latest team to hope to add Rattler certainly fits that billing.

Cleveland Browns writer Michael Haney of DPD writes that Rattler could be a bargain for the Browns this offseason. Here's what Haney had to say of the potential move.

"Rattler was a decent QB for the Saints in his limited starts in 2025. He eventually lost his job to second-round pick Tyler Shough, but that was due more to the draft capital invested in the rookie by the current regime than it was to his play through the first half of the year. The two-year veteran operated Kellen Moore's offense efficiently, throwing for eight touchdowns and five interceptions on the season. His performances weren't incredible, but they were better than what the Browns' rotation of quarterbacks put on display.

Now that Shough is the assumed starter in New Orleans moving forward, Rattler could be available for a small price in a trade. It may only take a late-round pick to get a deal done. If that's the case, the Browns should make an offer before another QB-needy team does."

Unquestionably, the Browns have been taking a shotgun approach at the quarterback position having tried everyone from Joe Flacco to Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel. And while it's uncertain either of Sanders or Gabriel will pan out, there's no telling if Rattler will greatly improve things in Cleveland.

The loss of head coach Kevin Stefanski looms large for the Browns, who lost a coach that led them back to the NFL playoffs for the first time since the early 2000s. That accomplishment was no small feat, but apparently not enough to keep Stefanski around in Cleveland.

The lack of coaching stability certainly has to be undesirable for Rattler as it likely has been for fellow NFL players over the last two decades. Then again, it could stand as an opportunity for Rattler to prove himself like fellow Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield did before playing elsewhere and solidifying himself as an NFL starter.

The Saints could receive trade interest for multiple quarterbacks on their roster this offseason. We'll see what it yields for New Orleans over the coming months.
