Chris Olave gets himself a running mate.
Following an encouraging end to the Saints' season, Tyler Shough is sure to receive some offensive firepower in the NFL draft. Kellen Moore's offense can use another young, explosive receiver, and The Athletic agrees in its latest three-round mock draft.
8. New Orleans Saints: Carnell Tate, WR, Ohio State
The Saints also could go in a few different directions, and despite the recent addition of Travis Etienne Jr., their list probably should include Love — GM Mickey Loomis could be looking for an Alvin Kamara replacement.
As with Tet McMillan a year ago, Tate’s 40 time didn’t wow anyone — and no one should really care. He’s an ascending weapon.
42. New Orleans Saints: Peter Woods, DT, Clemson
According to Next Gen Stats, Woods ranks as the number one total score composite of all defensive tackles with a score of 77, which is comprised of his number one production score (81) and number 11 athleticism score of 77.
Lance Zierlein of NFL.com compares Woods to Christian Wilkins and as a plus starter in the NFL.
"Woods is a young interior defender with room to add play strength as he fills out his frame. He’s not a pure one- or two-gap fit, but he’s capable in both schemes. He plays with good lower-body explosiveness into initial contact, keeping his hands and feet synced to work around blocks when needed. He’s more of an active brawler than double-team eating tree stump. Shorter arms allow blockers to crowd his frame and force him to fight harder at the point. Yet, his ability to overtake and win as the rep progresses is impressive. He lacks quick-win talent as a solo rusher, but he’s fully functional as part of a pocket-collapsing collective. His 2024 tape might be a better representation of his upside, but Woods clearly has the potential to become a solid starter in an even front."
73. New Orleans Saints: Chris Bell, WR, Louisville
Now, doubling up with Bell in the third round to go with Tate would be a home run draft class, and the Saints offense would be a high-flying act if Shough continues to develop in Moore's offense.
The concern with Bell is recovering from his ACL injury, but the Louisville receiver's stock is rising ahead of draft day. Bell provides a boundary receiver, and three receiver sets would be a nightmare for defenses. The Saints' offense would have weapons at every position.
