A major addition to the team that could bring about some big changes for the Saints.
The New Orleans Saints were one of the top-10 selections that many did not know where they were going to go. With needs around the roster, and coming off of a great end to the year, the Saints could go in any direction, and no matter what position, it would be a smart move.
Many of the names, such as Rueben Bain Jr., Jordyn Tyson, Caleb Downs, Mansoor Delane, and more, were being linked to the Saints' selection, but in the end, they went with Tyson at 8.
The Saints have some more work to do in the draft, but with this new addition to the roster, the expectations for 2026 just got a bit higher. A major upgrade was found, and with how successful the free agency window was, playoff football could return to New Orleans.
With the addition of Tyson to the roster, the WR room looks much better, and it's a bit clearer. Coming into the draft, Chris Olave was the clear WR1, Devaughn Vele was WR2, and there was a group of players that could be in that WR3 spot. That was not good enough, and WR2 was a major need. Tyson will slot right into that spot, making Olave's job a bit easier and adding some flexibility to the offense.
Adding Tyson will also take some pressure off of Vele. It took some time for the former Denver Broncos WR to get consistency in the Saints' offense, but once he did, he was a really good weapon for Tyler Shough. He looked like a high-level WR3, and for him to thrive in that role, the Saints needed to add that WR2.
For the depth of the WR room, this addition also makes the group even better. Now, Mason Tipton, Ja'lynn Polk, Bub Means, and Trey Palmer can all fight for that WR4 spot, which should see some time on the field, especially if injuries end up occurring with at least one of the top 3 WRs on the roster.
Last 53-man roster cuts, the Saints took 6 WRs into the regular season, and that should be the case this season as well. As of now, barring any other additions later in the draft or through undrafted free agency, I believe those 6 players would be Olave, Tyson, Vele, Polk, Means, and Palmer. Due to the addition of Tyson, this group of WRs looks much better.
