A potential option in nearly every round.
The New Orleans Saints still have a couple of glaring roster needs to address. Those are clear directions the Saints can go in on during the draft, but depth at other positions remains an important need. Some of these positions are DT, RB (even with the additions of Travis Etienne and Ty Chandler), and TE.
Throughout the pre-draft process in late March, the Saints have been meeting with a number of prospects, and there is a clear theme. If people did not believe the Saints should address RB or TE, I have some bad news for you. Kellen Moore and the rest of the staff have been meeting with those two positions. Besides WR, these two are what the Siants are doing the most work on, but why?
Well, turning the attention primarily to TE, this is a very deep class. In every single round, there could be at least two TEs taken by teams, and it makes sense with where the NFL is. TE has become a position that can completely catapult a team into contention.
The Saints already have Juwan Johnson and Noah Fant, which is a great start going into 2026, but adding another prospect would be very smart. Both players' contracts expire after the 2027 season, and Johnson's inconsistencies can come out of nowhere. Having a third option that can step up whenever needed, contribute throughout games as a blocker or pass catcher, and develop when not playing would really set the Saints' present and future success up well.
In the first round, there is really one primary option, and that's Kenyon Sadiq. The Oregon TE is an excellent prospect, and there is probably a chance the Saints could consider him at 8, but with the money they are giving Johnson, that would be a shock. So, that leaves days 2 and 3.
Although the Saints could very well select a TE in the 2nd or 3rd round, it would still be a surprise due to how pressing other needs are. The Saints need to fix EDGE, WR, and CB before they can really consider going best-player-available. If New Orleans signs a player before the draft, this could change, but as of now, the idea place for TE is on day 3. This also aligns with how much work the Saints are doing, as they need to find that gem that could be available on day 3.
