A positional need that must be fixed right away.

On day 5 of free agency, almost every positional group is out of valuable starters, including EDGE, which is arguably the New Orleans Saints' top need. Unless Cam Jordan comes back, it is unlikely the Saints add another pass rush starter this offseason, so now, the team needs to pivot to another positional need, and right up there with EDGE is WR.

For the pass catchers, there are still some great options in free agency that can come in and be a WR2 right away. Many people who follow the Saints want New Orleans to select a WR in round 2, which is a great decision and should still happen, but adding another WR now will help make that happen, while also focusing the first-round pick on something else.

Round 1 for a WR is an interesting conversation because the Saints will have at least one of the top 3 at their selection. The issue is how much investment the Saints have made in offense, and if the first-round pick is not defense, it could really hurt the defense. There should be some great defensive options like Rueben Bain Jr., Caleb Downs, Sonny Styles, and Mansoor Delane available at 8, and each would be a massive upgrade for the Saints. Also, the WR depth of the draft is really good, so the Saints do not need to force the pick at 8 for one.

If New Orleans does bring in a player like Keenan Allen or Jauan Jennings to be WR2, the Saints would then be able to get a WR in round 2 or 3. First, looking at the options in the second round, the Saints could choose Chris Bell, who was Tyler Shough's former teammate, Denzel Boston, who has fallen in the draft and is still a really good fit with the Saints, and Germie Bernard is a versatile WR2 option that Kellen Moore could have fun utilizing in the offense. Any of these three players would be excellent long-term options at WR2, and step in as WR3 when the free agent is playing.

Another direction the Saints could go is to take another position in the second round, then focus the third-round pick on WR. Some options include Ted Hurst, Elijah Sarratt, Ja'Kobi Lane, Skyler Bell, or Malachi Fields. Although these options may not be as good as the round 2 ones, each could be a WR3 right away for the Saints and be a long-term option.
