Considering each of the New Orleans Saints' positional needs this offseason, it will take nearly an impossible amount of assets to get it done, but they can still do it. The Saints should also keep their minds completely open in case of the perfect opportunity falling right into their hands, and one of those could be in the trade market.
Before moving forward with the trade topic, it needs to be noted that the Saints cannot be risky or act as if they are all in during negotiations. That can cause New Orleans to give up way too much trade capital and risk it all, which can hurt this team's future. Instead, the cheap deals are where the Saints can thrive, as they did with Luke Fortner last season. So, here are some of those options.
For the first option, we are attacking a bit of a lower need for the Saints, but still a need nonetheless. Since being selected in the second round, Las Vegas Raiders TE Michael Mayer has never lived up to the expectations placed on him, but he has also never been used enough. He has the talent to be a TE1, and although that may not be with the Saints due to Juwan Johnson securing it last season, Mayer would be in a much better role in New Orleans.
HC Kellen Moore really likes using multiple TEs and also likes having them block. Johnson struggled with this last season, and Mayer would be an upgrade. Also, with Johnson's inconsistencies throughout the season, Mayer can step in as the starter.
In trade negotiations, Mayer could be moved on from with a day 3 selection due to him entering the final year of his contract, but he is only 24, so the price may be a bit higher.
The other trade option the Saints could pursue this offseason is Denver Broncos CB Riley Moss. Although Moss is one of the most penalized CBs in the NFL, he is playing in a prominent man coverage scheme, but that's not what he will do in New Orleans.
Moss is both good at man and zone, and he could thrive in the Saints scheme that uses both. He is not going to be a CB1, but could be an excellent CB2 option for the Saints, and it will probably cost them a 4th round selection.
