How will Jordyn Tyson impact the Saints offense?
The New Orleans Saints have been widely praised for their selection of Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson in the 2026 NFL Draft, stating his fit in the offense and how he gives another weapon for Tyler Shough. However, that isn’t all he provides. Perhaps Tyson’s greatest gift to the offense is his ability to create a “positionless” unit who can dissect a defense in various ways. This will elevate the Saints’ offense to another dimension and open up the playbook for head coach Kellen Moore.
It’s important to understand what I mean by a positionless offense. The Saints have built an extremely versatile group, led by Chris Olave, Jordyn Tyson, Travis Etienne Jr., Alvin Kamara, and Devaughn Vele. All of these players are capable of donning multiple roles, whether it’s lining up in the backfield, as a slot receiver, an X, or a Z.
This ability may seem mundane on the surface, but it is extremely valuable to an offense. This level of flexibility allows Kellen Moore to find mismatches and put his players in advantageous positions. For instance, if the opponent has an undersized slot cornerback, he can move a physical receiver like Vele or Bryce Lance into the slot. Similarly, if he lacks elite speed, then Olave or Tyson can expose it.
Before April, the Saints had this ability, but only to an extent. The addition of Tyson gives them another versatile option who enables this. In 2025, he saw 75% of his snaps as an outside receiver, the rest being in the slot. This means he has ample experience both on the outside, as an X or Z, and the inside.
Additionally, Tyson’s a well-rounded prospect who thrives in countless areas. First off, he’s an outstanding athlete who frequently uses his blazing speed or contested catch ability to dominate a defender. Likewise, he’s an elite route runner who can create instant separation with his deceleration and cuts. This helps him match up well against any archetype of defender and expose their weakness.
Because of this, Tyson will be the chess piece that Kellen Moore needs offensively. He will draw the defense’s focus, which will create other opportunities for Olave and company. He allows the veteran to line up anywhere on the offense and receive more single-coverage looks.
Overall, Jordyn Tyson will impact the Saints’ offense in countless ways, but arguably the greatest is the positionless way he allows them to play. Kellen Moore will have a field day scheming up ways to get his playmakers in advantageous matchups.
