The New Orleans Saints (6-11) are in a good place after a strong finish to the 2025 season. The Saints won four of their last five games after starting the season 2-10.
Much of the Saints' success revolves around getting more from the quarterback position in rookie quarterback Tyler Shough. Even so, one writer is saying the team can get even better at quarterback and should allocate resources to finding one specific signal caller this offseason. For Saints fans, the name should be familiar.
Alex Hoegler of "Total Pro Sports" writes, the Saints are one of ten teams that should pursue a trade for former LSU Tigers quarterback Joe Burrow. He made his contention on Wednesday.
"The Saints haven’t at all indicated that they’d consider a tear-it-all-down rebuild. With a young foundation in place, why not swing for the fences and see if bringing Burrow back to the Bayou State?
For starters, rookie head coach Kellen Moore has a rich QB resume. Look how much the Philadelphia Eagles miss him after winning the Super Bowl last year.
Chris Olave and Juwan Johnson are a nice pass-catching tandem to work with. Workhorse running back Alvin Kamara isn’t going anywhere. The o-line is set up nicely with Cesar Ruiz and young bookends Taliese Fuaga and Kelvin Banks Jr.
There’s work to do on defense, yes. But that can be addressed via trade, the draft, and free agency. The primary goal here is to provide Burrow with the necessary tools to succeed. And playing in the NFC South would give him a much easier path to the Super Bowl compared to the AFC."
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (9) rolls back in the fourth quarter of the NFL Week 18 game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland Browns at Paycor Stadium in Downtown Cincinnati on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026. The Browns kicked a last second field goal to win 20-18. Sam Greene/The Enquirer / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn ImagesWhile the potential move is a pipe dream, it's almost certainly one that nearly every Saints fan from Louisiana would welcome. Burrow's LSU success aside, the star quarterback has been one of the best three to five quarterbacks in the NFL since not long after he took the field for the Bengals for the first time.
Whether or not he would upgrade the position is not up for debate. When healthy, Burrow is easily one of the league's best players. The question is, how long will he stay healthy and is the move even worth the risk and cost it would take to bring him to New Orleans with an already rising star quarterback on the roster.
Realistically, Shough will never become the player Burrow has been in the league, barring a larger sample size like the one he displayed in 2025. Even so, he's still proven to be a very good player for the Saints. Still, the potential move, if possible, gives New Orleans plenty to think about as it continues its offseason in 2026.
