Deals could be done.
The New Orleans Saints have not been shy about identifying which positions need to be addressed and making moves to upgrade their roster. We have already seen it with the recent draft class, trades, and signings, and last season, the Saints traded for Devaughn Vele and Davon Godchaux. That was when the team was not ready to compete, and yet, the Saints still made those moves.
With this type of aggressiveness from Mickey Loomis and the team, there needs to be balance. The Saints can be aggressive and pursue upgrades, but they also need to be willing to make trades that set the team up best for the future. New Orleans needs to be both a willing buyer and a seller.
Looking at the roster, there aren't many players to sell. It's not just about the Saints wanting to trade players; they also have to have teams interested in those same players. It is the same thing that happens during the draft.
Speaking of the draft, because 2027 is a class with such high praise, teams will not be willing to give up draft capital easily. The prices for some of these players are going to be low, but it may be better for the Saints to give up on them if it's better for the future, or maybe the return could actually be good.
Today, we will be talking about two players that the Saints could trade away.
DT Bryan Bresee
This one is more of a surprise, and I doubt it occurs before the season, but the trade deadline is another story. Bryan Bresee has had an up-and-down time with the Saints, and although it feels like he is going in the right direction, there is a chance he does not develop enough this season.
Bresee's contract has two more years, including the 5th-year option, so the Saints are in no rush to move on from him, but his value may be at its highest depending on what happens this season. Teams could also be interested in Bresee's potential.
OG Cesar Ruiz
In the case of this player, the reason for trading him is a bit different. After selecting offensive lineman Jeremiah Wright, there is competition brewing at RG. Cesar Ruiz has not played his best, especially last season, and the pressure is now on at RG.
Although I doubt Wright can win the job right away due to the development he needs, it can still happen, and if it does, Ruiz should become available right away.
