Kenny Moore could help New Orleans immediately.

Just before the 2026 NFL Draft, Indianapolis Colts DB Kenny Moore requested a trade from the team. After having some success last season, the Colts are moving in the right direction, but for Moore, it was his time to leave. For most of his career, Moore was one of, if not the, best slot defenders in the NFL, but with his 31st birthday coming before next season, his elite play has fallen off a bit. He is still a very good slot defender who can improve many teams' defenses, especially the Saints'.

When news broke that Moore requested a trade, many, including me, felt the Saints would be making a great decision if they made a move for the defender. The price would have been a big factor, but because Moore requested a trade and the Colts were not hiding that they were trying to get a deal done with teams, it was not going to be an expensive move. Well, it is actually going to be even cheaper for teams, because Moore has now been released by the Colts.

Clearly, the Colts were unable to find a trade partner, and with Moore now being on the market, the Saints are going to have some competition if they are interested. Instead of focusing on teams' that could if New Orleans competition, let's look at why the Saints would even be interested in the first place.

As of now, we do not know what the Saints will do in their slot position. There are some potential answers, such as moving Julian Blackmon, Jonas Sanker, or Quincy Riley, but those are all unproven options. For a team in the second year of a rebuild, they have the ability to take that risk and see what happens, but why not just get an answer right away?

Moore can be the starting slot, Kool-Aid McKinstry and Martin Emerson Jr. starting on the outside, and Riley developing further behind those players. The Saints could even plan for the future and focus Riley's development to move into the slot next season, especially if Moore's contract would be a 1-year deal. Instead of worrying about trade price, the Saints can now just worry about how much it will cost to sign Moore. Other teams will be interested, and if Moore has a goal of joining a win-now team, the Saints may not be the best fit for him.
