What a weird game.
With major pressure weighing down the New Orleans Saints after owner Gayle Benson’s comments this week, the team stayed strong and won their Week 6 game against the New York Giants. It was nowhere near a perfect game for New Orleans, and it can be argued that the Giants handed the Saints this win, but that doesn't mean New Orleans fell backward into the result, kind of.
The offense looked much better when Jeremiah Wright (who I will be talking about) went in at RG after Cesar Ruiz left with an injury, and the defense did really well for most of the game.
Overall, this was a good bounce-back win, and the Saints had some really nice performances, even if they almost gave the win back to the Giants.
Alvin Kamara
This was the best Kamara game we have seen in years. He made an incredible block early in the game, had success as a rusher, and scored a vintage touchdown after catching a short pass and gliding down the field. He also had a really good block down the field on a Shough run.
What makes this performance even crazier is the fact he did it after coming out of the game with some type of injury that was causing a lot of pain. We needed to see someone in the run game step up, and Kamara did just that.
Jeremiah Wright
I told you I was going to talk about Wright, and I'm ecstatic that I can. Cesar Ruiz has been a part of the Saints' offensive line and run game issues this season, so people were wondering if a change could be made. Wright had some nice moments in preseason and the staff really liked him in the draft process. Although it was not a change, and instead Ruiz left with an injury, Wright was a difference maker as a blocker. The run game transformed with him in and he wasn't horrible beaten in pass coverage, which is a great start.
Martin Emerson Jr.
In the middle of the game, Kool-Aid McKinstry went out due to sickness, and once Martin Emerson Jr. went in, the Giants had a tougher time throwing the ball. It also helps that Emerson Jr. was able to get two interceptions, which led to more Saints points and really took the Giants out of the game. Well, until Moore took out the starters and New York started their comeback.
Emerson Jr. may have to play more moving forward, even if McKinstry comes back healthy.
