The offseason brings out hypotheticals. From draft scenarios to free agency and trades, there are multiple ways for teams to retool, rebuild, or reload their rosters. The Saints are in an excellent position with draft capital and a clear direction at quarterback. Things become clearer for offseason plans with the quarterback in place.
New Orleans is on an upward trajectory, but may not be in a position to compete for a title. Veteran players are needed to help maintain the culture and usher in young players into bigger roles down the line.
That brings me to Alvin Kamara. The veteran running back has made himself very clear on wanting to stay in New Orleans, even going as far as threatening to retire if he is moved.
What if the Saints moved Kamara close to New Orleans while putting him on a team capable of a deep playoff run? That is just the scenario brought up by Justin Carter of Fansided.
Carter wonders if the Saints and Texans pull off a deal, sending the veteran to Houston to replace Joe Mixon, who missed the entire season with an injury.
"The Houston Texans got one good year out of the Joe Mixon trade before injuries prevented Mixon from playing his second season with the team. Maybe they try again with New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara? I know Kamara has expressed a complete lack of interest in being traded, but Houston isn't that far from New Orleans, and culturally, the cities share things in common."
"Kamara might be nearing the end of his NFL career, but there's enough juice here for him to be a weapon for a Texans team that really needs to figure something out in the run game."
When Kamara is used as a pass-catching weapon, it maximizes his impact with how well he catches the ball, runs routes, and still makes defenders miss in space. Houston has weapons at receiver with Nico Collins, Jayden Higgins, and Jaylin Noel, but Kamara could be a very nice complement as a pass-catching running back.
Not sure who would be in charge of convincing Kamara to agree to the trade (I don't envy that job), but it could be possible if Kamara wants one more shot at chasing a Super Bowl.
I'm skeptical he can be convinced, but hypotheticals are fun, and Kamara would be a fit with the Houston Texans.
