I'm not betting on it, but it is interesting to look at his odds.

As the New Orleans Saints prepare for the season opener against the Detroit Lions, all eyes are on new franchise quarterback Tyler Shough. The end of the 2025 season raised expectations for the Saints with consecutive wins to close out the year. Shough did what any franchise quarterback would do: gather his weapons together in the offseason and work.

Now, the Saints have their eyes set on ending their postseason drought in 2026. Given the state of the NFC South, the Saints are in prime position to grab the division. The offense taking several steps forward is no doubt a goal for New Orleans. Adding Travis Etienne to an offense in desperate need of a running game only helps Shough and the offense.

An interesting bet for the upcoming season has popped up on Betoline.ag about the first quarterback to be benched during the season.

Leading the pack is Deshaun Watson and with good reason. Watson is a dreadful quarterback and with how the Browns operate, it is easy to see him benched for Deion Sanders' son. Tua Tagovailoa is second and that's even if he's the actual starter against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but that is also a great bet.

The players with the best odds after are Kirk Cousins (a good bet because the Raiders will want to see Francisco Mendoza), Geno Smith, Jacoby Brissett, Kyler Murray, Malik Willis, Bryce Young, and Jaxson Dart.

I would like to point out that everyone but Murray, Young, and Dart is in great danger of being benched. Shough is right behind Dart and tied with the Super Bowl-winning QB Sam Darnold. Excuse me if I seemed confused, but I doubt either Shough or Darnold will be benched.

Saints' head coach made a move from Spencer Rattler to Shough, but that was with upside in mind and to give the rookie a shot while the offense was struggling. There isn't a move to make with Shough as the starter. You are riding with the young man in 2026.

At +3300, you are taking a long shot at Shough being benched. Scared money don't make no money, but I'm staying far away from Shough being benched first. Give me Brissett, the Cardinals will go from him to Gardner Minshew then to rookie Carson Beck.

There’s always ups and downs for any NFL team throughout the season, but New Orleans will hope that Shough is a constant.
