The Saints need Tyson on the field as soon as possible, but how much will it change Kellen Moore's struggling offense?
One of the reasons this season has been disappointing for the New Orleans Saints, besides the record, is Jordyn Tyson’s injury. After having a universally praised draft class in 2025, expectations were high for 2026.
So far this season, the 2026 draft class for New Orleans has been far from good. I won't go through every player, but so far, no one has shown they can be a starter. That’s honestly impressive to do, especially this early on in a draft class. To defend the Saints a bit, many of their selections were more developmental prospects, but just looking at Christen Miller, he should be starting and making a much bigger impact.
But what this draft class really comes down to is the first-round pick, and Tyson being unable to play yet has made this class look much worse. I do believe that the Saints would have earned a bit more grace or understanding if Tyson wasn’t unbelievably injury-prone coming into the NFL, but he was, and everyone knew that selecting the young WR was a risk, no matter how much talent he could bring to a team.
This injury has knocked him out of every game so far, but hopefully, his return is near. As of now, the expectation is that Tyson can return after the bye week for the Saints’ next game. This will be against the Cleveland Browns in New Orleans. The past two games were not great ones to return to because of MetLife’s field and traveling to Paris, so this Brown’s game has been circled as a potential return point.
If Tyson is able to return, the Saints will be very happy to have him in the offense, but the main question is: will it matter?
Tyson is going to be WR2 on this team right away, and with his talent, he will look like a WR1. The issue is how bad the rest of the offense has been. Tyson should be able to open up the run game because defenses will have to pay attention to the rookie, but even if that happens, the Saints’ run offense is so bad it won’t matter. The main impact, besides just being great by himself, is that Tyson will help Olave to get open more and can really unlock the passing game. But the Saints will have to block to make that happen, which is a whole other issue.
Tyson’s return will most definitely help the Saints' offense, but fixing it is likely not going to happen.
