The 2026 NFL Draft is a pivotal one for the Saints, and achieving another excellent class could make the playoffs a realistic possibility next season. With the Senior Bowl featuring exciting prospects, continuing to select from the event could help make this happen.

Throughout NFL Draft history, the New Orleans Saints have been among teams that value the Senior Bowl most. When the Saints get a closer look at the Senior Bowl players, they start picking their "guys" and falling in love with them.

This is very important for the draft process because when New Orleans places a high value on the players they're enamored with from the Senior Bowl, that value lasts until the moment they select those prospects.

Why the Senior Bowl?

Understanding why the Saints value the Senior Bowl is important before moving forward. There are other offseason draft events that every team in the league participates in, but even when the Saints select from different avenues, the Senior Bowl is where most of their prospects come from.

Arguably, the main reason GM Mickey Loomis and the rest of the front office value the Senior Bowl so highly is because of its proximity to Louisiana. The Saints are the closest team to Mobile, Alabama (where the event takes place), with the drive only about 2 hours. This gives the Saints a competitive advantage, allowing them to send most of the front office and coaching staff to the event.

Speaking of the staff, the Saints are also always heavily represented in the Senior Bowl coaching staffs, especially this year. For the American Team, 7 Saints coaches will be on staff, and associate HC/RBs coach Joel Thomas will serve as the team's HC. This is excellent news for the Saints, as they can now get a better view of some of the Senior Bowl prospects.

Prospects on the American Team Roster That the Saints Could Have Interest In

Due to the team's heavy intrest in selecting players from the Senior Bowl, of course we have to look at soem of those prospects. The Saints will do their due diligence by scouting prospects from both teams, but given the extensive list of coaches on the American Team roster, they will take a much closer look at those players.

Starting on the offensive side of the ball, here are some of the prospects on this roster that the Saints could be interested in:

  • WR Ja'Kobi Lane (USC)
  • WR Aaron Anderson (LSU)
  • WR Ted Hurst (Georgia State)
  • WR Malachi Fields (Notre Dame)
  • TE Sam Roush (Stanford)
  • RB Jonah Coleman (Washington)
  • OL Kage Casey (Boise State)
  • OL Jake Slaughter (Florida)
