The ascending receiver has been named in trade talks.
The New Orleans Saints season has been disappointing so far. At 2-5 and at the bottom of the NFC South, the once promising season has taken a turn for the worst. The bye week comes at the right time, but the schedule isn't letting up in Week 9. The next four games are against Cleveland, Carolina, Chicago, and Cincinnati.
The Saints can turn it around, but given the mistake filled, undisciplined football shown so far in 2026, New Orleans could be staring down the barrel of 2-9. New Orleans has proven tough against Carolina, but all four of the remaining opponents are more than likely playoff teams.
So, what do the Saints do? A season that was supposed to break the playoff drought for New Orelans has taken a turn into huge disappointment land. Would the Saints be inclined to sell before the November 10th trade deadline?
One name that continues to come up in trade proposals is wide receiver Devaughn Vele. The former Broncos receiver has been quite the find for the Saints as a big body, red zone target. Point blank, his time with the Saints has breathed life back into his career.
ESPN's Ben Solak has proposed a trade with the Chiefs that would send Xavier Worthy to New Orleans with a 2027 seventh round pick for Vele and a 2027 sixth round pick.
"Before you laugh, that's tied-for-22nd-in-total-receptions Devaughn Vele to you! Vele is an entirely unexciting target, but he is also basically what the Chiefs need. He's a big-bodied receiver who can take a ton of contact and endure 10-plus-target games. He also makes good catches away from his frame and provides red zone value -- something the Chiefs' worryingly undersized receiver room has always failed to bring. With Jordyn Tyson coming back from a hamstring injury at some point and the Saints' season on life support, New Orleans can take the gamble on rehabilitating Worthy."
Worthy has disappointed after putting on a show at the NFL Scouting Combine. The Chiefs would be selling low on the receiver, but adding Worthy to a receiving core of Chris Olave, Tyson, and Bryce Lance is more than enough juice for 2026 and the future.
Vele is unlikely to sign with the Saints, as the league has taken notice of his recent play. Instead of losing him for nothing, make a move now and gain draft capital. I'm sure the San Francisco 49ers would be interested in his services as well.
