Climbing to the top of the mountain is hard, but staying there is harder, and Lucas knows what it takes to get to the top again.
The Seattle Seahawks reached the NFL mountaintop last season and became Super Bowl champions in Mike Macdonald's second year as head coach.
But as we know, climbing the mountain is tough, but staying there is even harder.
The Seahawks will now have a target on their backs as every opponent will want their pound of flesh from the champs, so every week will be a titanic clash as Seattle will get everyone's best shot.
But that's the mentality from the rest of the league, what about inside the building for Macdonald's team?
Being champs is great, and we often see the desire the following season isn't as high simply because you've got what you wanted. The stomach is full, there's no need to chase anymore because you've gotten your fill.
But for right tackle Abe Lucas, who was a guest on Seattle Sports with Wyman and Bob, he detailed how he and the team are approaching the desire to repeat as Super Bowl champs.
"For me, my mindset, it was such a confidence boost for me and how far we went collectively as a team and a confidence boost for my performance individually," Lucas said. "So now it's like not even can we do it again, just how good can we be? We were good last year, let's be even better this year, and let's really hone in on the craft of it all.
"Then really, it's just focusing on the process. The goal obviously is to win, but you can't just focus on the end goal, you have to focus on the individual steps to get there, and that's what we're trying to do and what we're going to do this year, just at a better level."
We already know that the Seahawks are a good team as we enter the 2026 season, but with the roster turnover and the fact that the franchise will have a new offensive coordinator, Seattle will look a little different this season.
That doesn't mean bad, it just means different, and with every other team now having ample time to study the champs, the Seahawks on both sides of the ball have to evolve and be better.
Which is what Lucas, I think, is hinting at. Yes, Seattle is good, but can it be even better in 2026?
We often see teams have a "Super Bowl hangover," but going by Lucas' words, at last right now, it feels like it will be nothing of the sort will happen for Macdonald's Seahawks.
