When Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald sits down at his desk looking at his to-do list for the offseason, it's going to be quite the list.
Even for a Super Bowl champion, there's a lot of housekeeping that has to be done.
Which free agents does the franchise want to retain, which ones do they not?
Then there is the small matter of free agency and how the team can spend its resources to give itself the best chance at repeating as champions.
There's a lot to think about.
When it comes to how the Seahawks can improve, the easy thought is to retain the pending free agents and then supplement them with key additions.
Of course, that's easier said than done.
But what is Seattle's highest priority? For NFL.com's Matt Okada, it's finding Jaxon Smith-Njigba a running mate.
"For those who missed it, this team just won the Super Bowl," Okada wrote. "Still, there’s almost always room for improvement. For Seattle, that might mean finding a running mate for Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
"Cooper Kupp will be another year older, Rashid Shaheed is an impending free agent, and neither wideout was a consistent target for Sam Darnold during the season. Smith-Njigba proved his merit as a true number one receiver, but the Seahawks could use a relevant number two to share the burden in the passing game."
Finding a No. 2 receiver might not be as easy as some think.
Yes, the draft is an option, but we know that sometimes, high picks, while having a track record of hitting, can also miss, and badly.
So maybe free agency is where the Seahawks can find Smith-Njigba a running mate, but who?
Alec Pierce, Romeo Doubs, and Jauan Jennings are some who wouldn't break the bank, while Tyquan Thornton is another name, but he would fall into the "just another guy" category.
Ultimately, the Seahawks have to decide how much they want to spend on getting another weapon for Smith-Njigba and Sam Darnold. After all, it might be easier to run it back with Cooper Kupp and Rashid Shaheed.
Still, getting a top tandem to defend your Super Bowl title with isn't the worst thing in the world, but it definitely won't be cheap to get it across the line.
