The Seahawks didn't get the pass rusher they wanted in the draft, but could they look to free agency to add some depth?
The Seattle Seahawks have finished up their 2026 NFL Draft, with general manager John Schneider doing what he could with a limited number of picks.
Coming into the draft, the Seahawks had just four selections, but through some wheeling and dealing, they walked out of Pittsburgh with eight players.
Addressing needs at running back, corner, safety, defensive tackle, along with a couple of offensive players, the one position Seattle didn't address was edge.
With DeMarcus Lawrence and Leonard Williams as the starters, the Seahawks, on paper, don't exactly have the best rotation at the position.
But it doesn't appear that the Seahawks are all too concerned by that.
We've stated numerous times that the Seahawks have a well-rounded roster in good shape heading into the offseason.
And head coach Mike Macdonald is confident in those already on the roster to make an impact at the edge position.
“Jared Ivey’s a guy that had a great season last year,” Macdonald said. “He wasn’t active as many days as he probably wanted, but Jamie Sheriff’s another guy, for two years, been with us. Connor O’Toole was up and does a lot of great things. Jalan Gaines is back. So, we're really excited about those guys."
So, to me, that signals that the Seahawks are content with the players they have, and that Macdonald wants to give reps to the younger players on the roster this offseason.
Of course, that doesn't mean the franchise won't be active in free agency to add a nice piece or two to the mix, because you can never have enough players who can rush the quarterback, can you?
Per Over The Cap, the Seahawks still have a little over $32 million in cap space, so the franchise does have the financial means to go shopping.
But will they look to add another edge rusher or two this offseason?
“Yeah, we may,” Schneider said. “Yep.”
So, the Seahawks, like all other NFL teams, are still on the lookout for depth pieces in free agency.
Northwestern defensive end Aidan Hubbard was signed as an undrafted free agent, so we can add his name to the list, but I'd imagine a couple more could be signed in the coming months.
It was a good draft for Seattle, but going by Schneider's words, the work is far from done, and edge appears to be a big focus for the franchise.
