The reigning Super Bowl champs make their star defender the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history on the day of the 2026 preseason opener.
The Seattle Seahawks and star cornerback Devon Witherspoon have agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension worth $132 million, according to ESPN reporter Adam Schefter.
The deal includes $101 million guaranteed, making Witherspoon the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.
A three-time Pro Bowler, Witherspoon earns a long-term extension after receiving All-Pro Second Team honors and anchoring a Seahawks defense that was dominant in 2025 en route to Seattle's second Super Bowl title.
Throughout training camp, Witherspoon was adamant about not "holding in" amid his contract negotations.
"We've got a long season ahead of us, man, contract or not," he said. "We've still got to play football at the end of the day, and we've got to be out there and be prepared. If you're not practicing, you're not getting ready for the season because everybody else in the league is practicing and they're getting better."
Witherspoon and the Seahawks get the deal done just hours before Seattle hosts the Dallas Cowboys in both teams' first preseason games of the new season.
"I'm really impressed by it, honestly," Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald said about Witherspoon's maturity in this process. "It's something that you're not used to dealing with as a player."
The Seahawks exercised a fifth-year option on Witherspoon that would have kept him under contract until next summer, but with an extension imminent in any capacity, Seattle found it possible to get the deal done quickly.
Witherspoon, who turns 26 in December, has started 42 of the 43 games he's appeared in for Seattle since being the No. 5 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Illinois.
He has two interceptions, two forced fumbles, 32 pass deflections and 4.5 sacks to his name with the Seahawks...
And over 100 million reasons to be happy as the defensive cornerstone of the defending champs.
