We are almost at the end of training camp, and the Seahawks' offense under Fleury is rolling along nicely.
The Seattle Seahawks offense has been a storyline to follow across the offseason as Brian Fleury steps into the shoes of Klint Kubiak, who is now the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.
With Fleury coming over from the San Francisco 49ers, what he brings to this Seattle offense is going to be intriguing to watch as the season rolls on. We did see some good football on the first drive against the Dallas Cowboys, which ended with a Drew Lock touchdown pass to Montorie Foster Jr.
And in Sunday's loss to the Titans? There were good offensive moments as well.
So, the positive signs have been there, but it's preseason, and at this time of year, it is all about stacking good days, learning Fleury's system so that when they face the New England Patriots in Week 1, they'll be ready to roll.
But how does quarterback Sam Darnold think the offense is traveling under Fleury at this stage of the offseason?
"We're continuing to find our identity," Darnold said. "I think for us, we got to continue to detail things up. Especially at this point in training camp, there can be some guys that think they have it figured out, myself included, you take your foot off the gas a little bit, and you're like, "All right, we have all the installs in, I feel like I've been executing at practice." It's like, no, you got to treat every single day like it's your last day out here.
"That's really my mindset. Our offense is continuing to push tempo, continue to have good practices, and build all the way to the season. Then, when we get in the season it's the same thing, just continue to build."
So, it is coming along for Seattle.
Granted, most of what Kubiak had installed last year has remained, with some verbiage changes and Fleury's own wrinkles thrown in.
Exactly what the offense will look like come the regular season is unknown, and in the preseason games, it will be very vanilla. But expect the running backs to be heavily involved both on the ground and in the air, with Darnold stating that all backs have done well catching out of the backfield and even in the slot.
Plus, given Fleury's background as a tight end coach, AJ Barner is likely to see plenty of balls as well throughout the season.
It has been a steady process of adjusting to Fleury's system, but now the Seahawks are close to finding their identity on offense.
And what that looks like is going to be a fascinating watch as the season progresses.
