The Seahawks' offense found its groove against Kansas City, but could it take advantage of the NFL trade deadline and look to improve the unit?

The Seattle Seahawks have already shown this week that they are buyers as the NFL Trade Deadline looms.

November 10 is the deadline, so the Seahawks have a little time to figure out if they want to improve their roster and where.

But we think we have come up with a move that suits Seattle.

With the Indianapolis Colts in fire-sale mode, having sent six-time All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson to Seattle, could general manager John Schneider go back to the well?

I think he could.

We know the Seahawks' offense is Jaxon Smith-Njigba or bust in the passing game, with JSN's 867 yards and 8 TDs easily the best on the roster, and Cooper Kupp's 199 yards and 1 TD next best.

So why not trying to add another offensive weapon?

Well, Colts receiver Josh Downs has requested a trade given the current state of the team, and the Seahawks could be a potential landing spot.

We have spoken at length about how the Seahawks need to find someone other than JSN on offense, and Downs might be a shifty WR2.

His 307 yards are already better than any other Seahawk after JSN, and he averaged 11.8 yards per reception, so he is a chain-mover.

Plus, he is in the final year of his rookie contract, so it would make sense for the Colts to move on from him and at least get something in return or risk losing him for nothing next offseason.

So, the Seahawks could lowball the Colts if they wanted to and offer to take Downs off Indianapolis' hands. And if the move doesn't work with Downs in Seattle, the franchise says goodbye at the end of the season.

Low risk, high reward.

Having JSN, Downs, Kupp, Rashid Shaheed, and Tory Horton, that isn't a bad list, and it gives Seattle a genuine receiver for Sam Darnold other than Jaxon.

Yes, Kupp is still a good receiver, but just 199 yards isn't enough. Shaheed is a special teams ace trying to play receiver, and Horton is still finding his feet.

Downs has three years of experience in the NFL, plus this season, despite the Colts' struggles, has two games of 40+ yards and two games of 70+ yards, so he is being productive.

Now, exactly what it would take, compensation-wise, to get Downs out of Indianapolis isn't known, but being in the last year of his rookie contract, the price won't be too high.

Seattle, in my view, needs another receiver, and with Downs requesting a trade and the Colts in fire-sale mode, this move, at least on paper, makes some sort of sense.
