Klint Kubiak’s masterful revitalization of Seattle’s offense sparks rumors of a Raiders reunion with Justin Jefferson as Minnesota’s quarterback instability threatens to alienate their superstar wideout.
Without Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s monstrous breakout campaign in 2025, the Seattle Seahawks likely don’t secure their second Super Bowl victory.
Without Klint Kubiak, Smith-Njigba’s rise to NFL Offensive Player of the Year may not have happened quite as quickly.
It’s impossible to ignore the correlation between Kubiak’s play-calling and Smith-Njigba’s 663-yard leap from 2024 to 2025 — and the Las Vegas Raiders certainly didn’t.
The Raiders hired Kubiak as their head coach following a one-year experiment with the previously retired Pete Carroll. And while Las Vegas made sweeping changes on both sides of the ball, it failed to add a true No. 1 receiver.
Perhaps Kubiak envisions dominant tight end Brock Bowers serving as his offense’s primary target ... or maybe he’s simply waiting for the right alpha wideout to become available.
Since allowing Kirk Cousins to sign with the Atlanta Falcons in 2024, the Minnesota Vikings have experienced a full-blown quarterback carousel.
Sam Darnold could’ve become the long-term answer ... but instead, he signed with the Seahawks, fed Smith-Njigba the ball and won Super Bowl LX.
J.J. McCarthy was extremely underwhelming during his first real season of NFL action, while Kyler Murray remains a career reclamation project whose resurgence is hardly guaranteed.
If that instability continues infecting Minnesota’s quarterback room, one has to wonder how long Justin Jefferson will remain patient.
And that’s how ESPN’s No. 2-ranked receiver entering 2026 could eventually become Kubiak’s next Smith-Njigba.
Raiders insider Hondo Carpenter believes Jefferson may be the exact type of player Vegas could be in the market for to pair with quarterback Fernando Mendoza.
"I think you wait and let that Justin Jefferson thing pan out a little bit. Nothing's imminent. I'm not saying anything is imminent," Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast. "I just know that there's a potential that he may want to move on and he had his best play with Klint."
Jefferson posted his second-highest single-season yardage total (1,616) under Kubiak in 2021 while hauling in a career-high 10 touchdown passes — a mark he wouldn’t match again until 2024.
"I think and may have reason to believe that he would be amicable if he were to be moved to be reunited… with Klint Kubiak," Carpenter continued.
Of course, Minnesota eventually finding stability under center could end the conversation before it truly begins ... but if McCarthy and Murray fail to provide it, the Vikings may eventually have to confront an uncomfortable Jefferson decision.
Las Vegas would still need to assemble a massive trade package and absorb one of the league’s most expensive contracts, but pairing Jefferson with Bowers would immediately give Mendoza an elite collection of targets.
Kubiak already knows how to maximize Jefferson’s skill set. His lone season in Seattle only provided further evidence of what his offense can accomplish when built around an elite receiver.
The Seahawks benefited from that formula all the way to a championship.
Now, Kubiak may be preparing to recreate it in Las Vegas with a familiar face.
