Latest Kenneth Walker Contract Update A Nightmare For Seahawks cover image

The task to keep Kenneth Walker a Seahawk was already tough, but after this latest update, it might be even tougher.

The future of Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker has been a topic of discussion ever since the Super Bowl.

And it appears with each passing day, we get little updates that seem to point towards the idea that Walker will be on a different team in 2026.

Of course, we know that Seahawks general manager John Schneider has already stated his desire to keep Walker, as has Mike Macdonald. Even Walker himself stated he would like to stay.

But as we know, just because a franchise or player wants something to happen doesn't mean it will.

The big sticking point, we think, in talks is the money.

We have seen rumors and reports fly around that Walker could get anywhere between $10 million APY and $15 million.

Now, most think that Walker could be on the lower end of that scale.

Except Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer might have just given us an update that might all but confirm Walker's future.

“The Jets have made it clear that Breece Hall is going to be tagged by Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline,” Breer wrote. “That makes Seattle’s Kenneth Walker III the top back on the market, and last week we discussed his potential landing spots (Kansas City, Denver, Houston, etc.) He will probably get around $14 million per year.”

That is a fair chunk of change.

Could the Seahawks pay Walker $14 million APY?

If they did, it would put Walker on par with Indianapolis Colts star Jonathan Taylor and just $1 million behind Derrick Henry.

A contract of that value, would see Walker move into the top-5 for highest paid running backs in football.

And because of that, it is easy to come to the conclusion that the Seahawks might just say that it is a little too pricey.

Having had a superb season at the right time, Walker looks set to cash in on his 2025 campaign, which he capped off with a Super Bowl MVP trophy.

We wrote at length that Walker's performances likely mean he pried himself out of a stay in Seattle.

And at $14 million APY for his proposed new contract, it doesn't feel like Kenneth will be a Seahawk in 2026.
