Macdonald liked what he saw from Brian Fleury's run game.
One big watch for the Seattle Seahawks against the New England Patriots was how the run game would fare, and in the 13-10 win at Lumen Field, it did well.
With rookie Jadarian Price looking like Kenneth Walker at times as he rushed for 52 yards on 10 carries, along with George Holani (29 yards from eight carries), the Seahawks managed to pick up positive yards.
Of course, with Sam Darnold out of the game after five plays, the Patriots' defense naturally tried to shut the run game down.
Price ripped off a 13-yard run on his first NFL carry, as we got to see his explosiveness right out of the gate.
In total, just 97 rushing yards doesn't look that good on the stat sheet, but when the Seahawks needed yards, they got them more often than not.
But how did Mike Macdonald see the run game under new coordinator Brian Fleury against the Patriots?
"I'm really excited about our run game," Macdonald said. "We want to hit our targets a little bit better, maybe get some different things operationally, but I thought our guys ran off the ball, they tried to finish runs, were decisive, and got the ball moving forward.
"Think we got off to a really good start, and I expect us to get even better."
Price is the one who will get Seahawks fans excited.
We saw his burst and acceleration on show early, as the run game looked explosive. Now, it did get bottled up at times, but for the most part, you have to feel good about it after just one game.
Also, the Seahawks won't face a defensive front like New England's every week, so what Fleury did without his starting quarterback should give fans hope.
Yes, it is only one game, so we won't jump to any conclusions over the offense and the run game, but there were good signs, even without Darnold.
Price, in his first game, showed us enough for us to think that he could be the starter for Fleury, and that would make an interesting conversation down the road when Zach Charbonnet returns from injury.
But for now, Macdonald is pleased with his run game, and he has every right to be.
