Seattle's rookie minicamp has now concluded, and head coach Mike Macdonald has been pleased with what the team accomplished.
The Seattle Seahawks have completed their rookie minicamp, with the Super Bowl champs getting to see their draft selections in action.
Granted, at this time of the offseason, it is more about evaluating where players are in their conditioning, how they are processing the playbook, and everything else they have learned.
But there is a method to Seattle's madness.
As Super Bowl champs, they have less of an offseason than other teams, which means they don't have as much time to get a start on the new season. Granted, it's a small price to pay.
And for head coach Mike Macdonald, looking back on rookie minicamp, he's happy with what the franchise was able to accomplish.
“I think we hit our goals," Macdonald said. "I think we have different agendas for different guys. The guys that we know were going to be here, I think we did a great job. They have an understanding about how we operate here now. It's good to get a look at them and get a plan together while they're out of the building, so they can come back and be ready next week, that's really important.
"Then to go through it with these try-out guys, there's some talented guys that we'll be interested in, and we'll be a better team for it."
So, the NFL offseason is officially up and running for Seattle, and the rookies will now get some time off before returning to the facility at the end of May for OTAs.
This period will be crucial for the rookies to nail down the playbook, because once they hit the ground at OTAs, the expectation will be that they are all caught up on what they need to do on the field.
But it has been a good start for Seattle, and as Macdonald stated, the team hit their goals over the weekend, laying a solid foundation for the rest of the offseason workouts.
With rookies and undrafted free agents making their presence known, the Seahawks will have some tough decisions to make over the coming months, but that is a part of NFL football.
The defending champs have gotten their program off and running in 2026, as they look to defend their title, and Macdonald is clearly pleased with how this rookie class has handled themselves.
