Seattle might have just won the Super Bowl, but looking at its OTA practices, you wouldn't know it.
The Seattle Seahawks might be the defending Super Bowl champs, but Mike Macdonald's team isn't acting like it.
We know that the climb to the top of the NFL mountain is tough, and one that few teams make, but once you are at the summit, the hardest part is remaining there.
That's what Macdonald has to figure out how to do.
And as OTAs have begun for the Seahawks, nearly every player on the roster was in attendance, which in itself is a good sign as everyone is bought in to trying to repeat.
But being there and "being" there are two different things.
Yes, you might be present, but are you already giving it everything you have, even though it's only OTAs?
Well, for Macdonald, he's loved what he's seen from his team at this early stage of the offseason.
“I think when you look at some of these high-performing teams that have been able to do it over a long period of time, I think the common thread that you find is a standard that you feel responsible to uphold on a daily basis,” Macdonald said via Seattle Sports.
“And part of that standard here is chasing edges, a spirit of evolution and a spirit of moving forward all the time. … I’ve just been really pleased with every day’s work, and haven’t sensed an ounce of complacency, and that’s been really positive.”
So the offseason has gotten off to a good start, and no, you can't win or lose a Super Bowl at this stage, but it is a crucial part in laying the foundation for the year ahead.
While there have been some roster and personnel changes this offseason, many still view the Seahawks as one of the teams to beat in the NFC, which speaks to the sort of program Macdonald is running.
And to have everyone already putting in everything they have, despite it being "only" OTAs, shows that while the Seahawks were able to get the ultimate prize last season, the thirst and hunger to do it again remains, and sometimes that's half the battle.
Now, whether or not Seattle does in fact have a good enough season to where it can position itself for a Super Bowl tilt is unknown.
But one thing is for sure, even at this early stage of the offseason, if they fail, it won't be due to a lack of commitment.
