The Seahawks are among the contenders this season for the Super Bowl, but what about the next three years?
What Mike Macdonald has been able to do in two seasons as the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks has been nothing short of impressive.
Having not had double-digit winning seasons in the three years before Macdonald's hiring, the Seahawks have rattled off 10 and then 14-win seasons, which culminated in a Super Bowl win last season.
We know that the Seahawks, as their roster is currently constructed, are again poised to be among the contenders for the Super Bowl this season, but as we know, most franchises play the long game, wanting to be in contention for years.
But are the Seahawks?
Well, ESPN has done a "Future Power Ranking" in which it assesses each team's chances of winning the Super Bowl from 2027 through to 2029 based on scoring the overall roster, excluding the quarterback, the front office, coaching, and then the quarterback.
Seattle was top three in three of those four categories, but was 16th at quarterback.
Still, the Seahawks land at No. 1 on the list.
"The league has been looking for a young defensive counterstrike to the ascent of offensive masterminds Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan, and the Seahawks have finally found it! Coach Mike Macdonald has a stellar track record of defensive player development, and the emergence of WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba, OT Charles Cross and QB Sam Darnold sets a high floor in Seattle for years to come," Ben Solak wrote.
So, going by ESPN's metrics, the Seahawks are the team best poised to have sustained success not only this season, but through the 2028 and 2029 seasons.
The Seahawks have built a well-rounded roster, and you can argue that even after the free agency departures, Macdonald's team is still one of the better rosters in football.
Of course, they face a daunting challenge of retaining their title, with only two teams managing to do it in the past two decades (New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs).
Still, with a defense that is still considered elite by most metrics, a whiz for a defensive coordinator, and an offense that should be one of the better units in football, if we put all of that together, Seattle should be up to its eyeballs in the Super Bowl this season.
And according to ESPN, for the next couple of seasons as well.
