The Seattle Seahawks will defend their Super Bowl title this upcoming season in what will be Mike Macdonald's third year as head coach.
With the Seahawks going from the hunter to the hunted, that can take its toll on a team, as we have seen Super Bowl champions struggle the following year.
Unless you are the Kansas City Chiefs, however.
Still, the Seahawks will have a target on their back as they look to retain their Super Bowl title.
And they might get to start their title defense off in a big way.
According to the Wall Street Journal's Joe Flint, the Seahawks appear poised to open the NFL season.
In 2025, it was the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field, and in 2026, it could be the Seahawks.
Seattle's potential opponents make for an interesting bunch, but according to insider Ari Meirov, we can count out both the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers from joining the Seahawks in opening the season.
Why? Because the pair is slated to play in Melbourne, Australia, on Thursday, with Seattle opening the season on Wednesday.
So, who could the Seahawks play then?
Well, looking at their schedule, there are a handful of options, and each would likely break the box office.
The big one is the Dallas Cowboys.
America's Team helped kick off the 2025 season in Philadelphia and drew huge numbers, so the NFL might want to run it back with the Cowboys in Seattle.
That would be a barnstormer to begin the year with.
Another option is the Kansas City Chiefs, but we don't know how healthy Patrick Mahomes will be coming off his ACL, so the league might balk at that.
And the other is the New England Patriots. A Super Bowl rematch.
That would bring in the viewers, I'd imagine.
The Chicago Bears or Los Angeles Chargers are also other potential opponents, but one thing we know about the NFL is that the league likes to start the year off with a bang.
Dallas, Kansas City, or New England would give the biggest viewership numbers, I think, so it would make sense for one of those three to meet Seattle to kick off the year.
