In his first offseason as Seahawks offensive coordinator, it appears Fleury is all about one thing.
One of the biggest changes the Seattle Seahawks have had this offseason was new offensive coordinator Brian Fleury taking over for Klint Kubiak.
For most, that is the one thing that is going to make a Super Bowl repeat hard for Seattle (even though every team struggles to repeat).
With Fleury coming from San Francisco, we know that he is keeping most of what was already in place under Kubiak, but with a few of his own wrinkles in there.
But for Seattle players, prior to training camp, they really hadn't gotten a full grasp on the system because they hadn't seen it in real time against a defense.
Well, that has happened at training camp, as Fleury's unit is going against Mike Macdonald's "Dark Side," so you know, no easy transition into the offseason for Fleury.
But for tight end AJ Barner, who himself is expected to have a much larger role on offense as he enters Year 3, was asked about the offense and Fleury as a coordinator.
"I'm excited about the offense," Barner said. "I think Coach Fleury does a great job of just being all about ball. He runs his meetings the right way, he expects great things out of his players, and he comes to work with the same kind of attitude that's just straight business. I think as a player, you can really respect a guy that has those values. So, it's a great fit here."
So, it appears things have gotten off to a good start for Fleury and the offense.
Of course, this is just the early days of camp, with the installation of the system still underway, but things are progressing for the Seahawks.
Given Fleury's background as a tight ends coach with the 49ers, it is expected that Barner, along with Elijah Arroyo, will be seeing their snap counts increase, while the running backs will look to be a more versatile threat as receivers as well.
So, there are a lot of moving parts in the Seahawks' offense, but according to Barner, things are moving along smoothly, with football the main focus for the defending champs.
Time will tell if that translates to success in Fleury's first year as a coordinator.
