Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald is taking a brief break from football this week, but he'll still be competing under the spotlight.
Macdonald is one of the first-time participants in the 2026 American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, joining one of the most recognizable celebrity golf tournaments in the country.
The annual event features nearly 90 athletes, coaches and entertainers, and every year has new participants. This year, the reigning Super Bowl champion coach is among the most exciting.
Macdonald is obviously no stranger to high-pressure situations after leading Seattle to a Super Bowl LX win last season, but the challenge at Lake Tahoe will be much different. Instead of drawing up game plans or managing an NFL sideline, Macdonald will test his golf game against a field packed with former professional athletes and accomplished celebrity golfers.
He'll be joined by fellow first-time coaches Kevin O'Connell of the Minnesota Vikings and Robert Saleh of the Tennessee Titans, giving football fans another reason to tune in this weekend.
While many participants are there for fun, the competition is far from casual. The American Century Championship uses a Modified Stableford scoring system that rewards aggressive play, and the field includes defending champion Joe Pavelski, two-time winner Mardy Fish, three-time champion Tony Romo, and 2023 champion Stephen Curry.
