Macdonald knows how to approach it.

The Seattle Seahawks are gearing up for their Week 1 clash against the New England Patriots at Lumen Field, but there is only so much you can prepare for.

With starters from both teams barely playing in preseason, and the natural evolution of the game plan and system on both sides of the ball, despite playing each other in the Super Bowl last season, both teams will be vastly different.

The Seahawks have a new offensive coordinator, and the Patriots have added players like A.J. Brown, which makes game planning incredibly tough.

Why? Because you actually don't know what the other is going to throw at you.

So how do the Seahawks deal with that element of a Week 1 game?

The fact that you have zero idea of what's coming?

"Well, I think you have to stick to your core competencies at the beginning of the game," Macdonald said. "Then, you're going to build out some possible answers as it goes, but it's just really have an understanding what you can do, who you guys are, how you feel what they're trying to do, and then get to it.

"You're doing that every game anyways, but I think the first game it's different probably because they could do anything. You just got to be ready for it."

So, it seems rather simple on the surface.

But when you are facing a team like New England, who boast a superb defense led by Mike Vrabel, and then an offense with Drake Maye, who should be improved, plus new weapons in Brown and Romeo Doubs, that is a lot to deal with.

But the Patriots defense will also have the same problem with Brian Fleury's offense.

Given that this is his first-ever NFL game as a coordinator, New England has nothing to go off of in terms of preparing to face him.

Plus, with a revamped running back room, plus Rashid Shaheed as a receiver more than a returner, there are a lot of unknowns that the Patriots have to deal with.

So, both teams will be having to go through the same thing.

Not a lot of film on their opponent, no nothing.

But as Macdonald stated, you just got to be ready for anything.
