Smith-Njigba has a new play-caller for the second consecutive offseason, but how has he found Fleury in the early stages of the program?
As Super Bowl champs, the Seattle Seahawks have undergone some significant changes, with the biggest one being at offensive coordinator.
Klint Kubiak is out, and former San Francisco 49ers tight ends coach Brian Fleury is in, and that in itself, for some, is a reason to doubt Seattle's ability to repeat as Super Bowl champs.
While we don't exactly know Fleury's scheme, reports suggest that he will be bringing some of what the 49ers do to Seattle. Meaning a lot of tight end use and running backs as receiving options.
But the big question many want answered is how Fleury will utilize All-Pro receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Coming off a career-best year, JSN is now looking to take his game to a new level under Fleury, and how he will be used is a fascinating thing to watch as camp rolls on.
And the relationship between player and coordinator is one that has to be on point, and as camp begins, it will be a feeling-out process for both.
But what is Smith-Njigba looking for when it comes to Fleury and his scheme?
"Really just the excitement that Fleury brings to the offense and him just understanding the players, understanding what we're good at," Smith-Njigba said. "Having offensive coordinators in this business, actions speak louder than words.
"So, it's good to get out here, put your foot in the grass, catch a few balls, and see what we have and where we're going. It's been great so far."
Expectations for Smith-Njigba, somehow, have gotten higher after his 2025 season, and in truth, expecting him to repeat his efforts isn't exactly fair.
After all, last season, he was the offense in the passing game for Sam Darnold, and Seattle needs someone to take the pressure off of No. 11.
Rashid Shaheed looms as one player who is set to take on an increased role under Fleury, and yes, Jaxon will still get his targets and catches, but defenses will be doing their best to take him away on a regular basis and force Darnold to win with his other weapons.
That is where Fleury and how he gets Smith-Njigba involved in the game comes into play.
Training camp is the time when he will be using all of his ideas to get JSN the ball, and right now, the All-Pro is loving life under his new coordinator.
