Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s explosive performance and an elite defensive shutdown propelled Seattle past the undefeated Chiefs, reviving their NFC West hopes while grounding Kenneth Walker’s highly anticipated homecoming.

The Kansas City Chiefs entered Sunday night with an undefeated 5-0 record while boasting a premier MVP candidate in the form of former Seattle Seahawks star Kenneth Walker.

But the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks proved to be too much for Patrick Mahomes and company on "Sunday Night Football'' at Lumen Field in Washington in a "backs-against-the-wall''' sort of game.

And in addition to the "Dark Side'' defense completely shutting down Mahomes and the KC offense - Seattle's best offensive weapon was able to outshine Walker, who was the MVP of that Super Bowl a year ago.

"Our backs were against the wall," Jaxon Smith-Njigba said. "How we came out here as a brotherhood and fought ... the resiliency of our team is something special, and we're going to keep going."

Why so critical? Seattle moved to 4-3 by snapping a two-game losing streak while completely aware that NFC West enemy San Francisco had earlier in the day lost its first game of the year to drop to 6-1.

So the window opened a bit.

And it was Smith-Njigba who climbed through it, catching nine passes for 150 yards and a score while being targeted 14 times by Sam Darnold.

Meanwhile, the Walker "revenge game'' never got off the ground.

Walker left Seattle while signing a three-year, $45 million deal with Kansas City in free agency.

He's been spectacular this year, teaming with the perennial MVP candidate Mahomes.

But here?

The Chiefs' only points came via a Harrison Butker field goal in the third quarter.

Otherwise, Mahomes finished 19-of-33 for 165 yards with an interception, and Walker had his worst outing of the season, rushing for 36 yards on 14 carries.

The Seahawks meanwhoile saw Sam Darnold throw for 257 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and running back Emmanuel Wilson - one of a handful of guys who this year figure to be subbing for Walker - rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown.

The Seahawks outdid the Chiefs in essentially every offensive category, including first downs (24-to-11) and total yards (410 yards for Seattle).

The results of Week 7 leave the NFC's Minnesota Vikings as the lone undefeated team remaining in the NFL, one more example of parity in the league ... and one more example of how important it was for JSN and the Seahawks to respond as they did here.
