Having missed the 31-7 win over the Cardinals, is there a chance that Darnold could return in Week 3?
The Seattle Seahawks managed to do well without Sam Darnold in the 31-7 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2, and now as the Washington Commanders come into view, all eyes are on Sam.
Dealing with a glute issue, Darnold didn't take his place against the Cardinals, with the severity of his injury varying. Some think it will be a week; others, a month, so there hasn't been a definitive timeline for a potential return.
Either way, the Seahawks will be cautious with Darnold, given it is a long season, and the last thing they want is to put Darnold out there and have him get injured again.
So, this week of practice looms as the key test for Darnold and his ability to take the field against Washington.
And for head coach Mike Macdonald, who was a guest on Seattle Sports, he thinks Wednesday is when we will see where Darnold is at.
"I think we'll see Wednesday," Macdonald said. "I'm not like hiding or trying to be a certain type of way. I'm just telling you it's just a let's see if you can practice. See how if he's able to practice on Wednesday or not. If he's not, then he won't practice."
When asked if there is a chance Darnold takes the field, Macdonald gave the entire fan base hope.
"There is a chance, yeah," Macdonald added.
I'd imagine that if Darnold is anything but 100 percent, the Seahawks will put a line through him for Week 3.
And if that happens, we do have a rather interesting storyline. Albeit not a good one.
Given what took place at AT&T Stadium for Jayden Daniels, he could be ruled out after dislocating his elbow late in the second quarter against the Dallas Cowboys.
So, it might be Marcus Mariota vs. Drew Lock on Sunday.
A battle of the backups.
Adam Schefter posted on X that Mariota is "expected" to start, as the Commanders go through testing on Jayden's elbow, and we are a few days away from knowing whether it will be Darnold or Lock taking the field at Northwest Stadium.
But all eyes are on Darnold who will try to practice on Wednesday.
