A key Seahawks defender suffers an ankle injury in practice, casting doubt on his Super Bowl LX availability and potentially impacting Seattle's formidable defense.

The Super Bowl between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots is approaching fast, which means the two teams are in the final stages of getting prepared for the game.

But Seattle suffered an injury to one of their best players in practice on Wednesday, and it could have an impact on Super Bowl LX.

Per a recent report from ESPN's Kalyn Kahler, Seahawks rookie defensive back Nick Emmanwori injured his ankle at the team's practice on Wednesday, and his status for Sunday's game is not fully clear.

"The rookie safety injured his ankle while defending a pass late in practice," Kahler reported. "He walked off the field on his own shortly before 4 p.m. Several players and coaches went over to comfort him before he left."

While it is good to hear that he walked off the field by himself, teammates and coaches going over to him and comforting him might not be the best sign.

But now comes an update from coach Mike Macdonald, who said on Thursday morning that the Seahawks “fully expect” Emmanwori to play in Super Bowl LX.

He called it a low-ankle sprain.

The 21-year-old safety had a spectacular regular season, and has also been having a great playoffs.

Emmanwori showed his versatility in his rookie year by racking up 81 total tackles, nine tackles for loss, and even 2.5 sacks. He was also able to show his ball-hawk skills with 11 passes defended and an interception in Week 14 against the Atlanta Falcons.

The Seahawks had maybe the best defense in the league in 2025, and Emmanwori was a very big part of them being able to dominate on that side of the ball.

Seattle would love their rookie to heal up and play in the Super Bowl ... and it looks like things are now trending that way.
