Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold has been dealing with an oblique injury over the past couple of weeks.
That hasn't stopped No. 14 from playing, and in the divisional round against the San Francisco 49ers, Darnold only had 17 pass attempts as Kenneth Walker and the run game, along with special teams, took over.
So, Sam didn't have to exert himself at Lumen Field.
But now that he is a handful of days removed from slaying the 49ers 41-6, all eyes are on Darnold and how his body is feeling ahead of what is the biggest game of his career.
After all, going 14-3 in the regular season, then a cakewalk in the divisional round, many feel this is Seattle's to lose at home.
But how is Sam feeling?
“Feeling really good, just attacking rehab these last couple days," Darnold said. "Will be throughout the week. Just got to continue to prepare and get my body right for Sunday."
That's all good and well, but once the game starts and the likes of Jared Verse start crashing into Darnold, we will get a better idea of his physical abilities.
In an ideal world for head coach Mike Macdonald, the script will follow the same lines as the divisional round.
Darnold plays the role of bus driver, while the run game takes over with Kenneth Murray, and the defense plays lights out.
Of course, with Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua, and Co. on the other side, this will be anything but a cakewalk.
There will be times Darnold will have to throw, and that is where the trepidation comes from within the fan base.
However, Sam seems more than confident that if he's asked to throw, he'll be able to do it.
"If I feel like a guy is open, I'm going to let it rip," Darnold added.
Well, that settles it.
Darnold is going to be as ready as he can be for what will be the biggest game of his career.
But the Rams have given him trouble this season.
Three times Darnold has thrown multiple interceptions in a game, and two of those have come against L.A. Turnovers in the postseason are killers, and with the Rams' offense one of the best in football, that is a recipe for disaster.
But with a healthy Darnold, the hope is that the trilogy will end with Sam leading Seattle to the Super Bowl.
