Not much was known about the new Seahawks coordinator, but now we are starting to understand what sort of person and coach he is.
Seattle Seahawks' offensive coordinator Brian Fleury had a tough task this offseason, coming to a team fresh off winning the Super Bowl and being asked to step into Klint Kubiak's shoes.
A position coach with the San Francisco 49ers, Fleury stayed in the NFC West, and now he is the leading voice of the Seattle offense, one that was one of the better units in football last season.
But it can be a little tricky coming to a new organization and getting your point across, especially when the offense you are joining is a Super Bowl champ.
However, Fleury, from all accounts, has been a hit in Seattle, with Mike Macdonald and his players speaking glowingly of him as a person and coach.
But we hadn't really heard any in-depth conversations about Fleury.
Until now, as receiver Tory Horton, who was a guest on Seattle Sports' Bump & Stacy, pulled back the curtain on his new OC.
“He's very dialed in,” Horton said. “Of course, that's what coaches are, but I've actually spoke with him outside of the football aspect of things. He's just honestly a really chill dude, keep everything low-key. He'll explode here and there, but you kind of tell everything's low key on how dissective he is on things. He's hammered in on the details and that's what you want from [your] offensive coordinator and coach.
“He's not afraid to pull you [aside], and just tell you straightforward, it's brutally honest, but it's not in a disrespectful form, just getting the point across. Short and sweet. But he's real he's real chill, he's dialed in though, he's locked in for sure.”
So Fleury has made positive strides this offseason, and yes, no adversity has hit yet, and it will, but for now, it is all gas and no brakes for the new offensive coordinator.
With much of what Kubiak had last season remaining, plus a couple of new wrinkles Fleury has brought in, there is a small element of the unknown about what to expect from the offense in 2026.
Without Kenneth Walker, many have grave concerns, but with Fleury's background coming from the 49ers, who utilize their backs as well as anyone in football, maybe he has something cooking in that aspect.
But for now, the 'real chill' Fleury appears to be a hit within the Seahawks locker room.
